Years ago, I started a new job requiring significant technical knowledge of a specific software. I had never used it before and had a lot to learn! What I did know was something a bit similar, but I found over and over again that other knowledge mostly hindered my progress of learning the new program. The knowledge I thought I wanted to use got in my way.
Sometimes I think my current understanding of God may also keep me stuck. I know what I know and sometimes rely too heavily on that previous knowledge. I don’t leave room for God to teach me, to mold me, or to make me new.
I need to get myself out of the way!
I need to cling to 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
I don’t have to revert to my old ways, my previous patterns or my former understanding (or lack thereof). I can trust God will show me new ways.
If you are like me, that is no easy feat- getting self out of the way!
But He knows all about us humans and our challenges. And, thankfully, He wants to help us. Will you join me in prayer for just that?
Prayer: Dear Lord, I don’t want to drag myself through this year with last year’s understanding. You bless me by growing my faith and making me new. Please get me out of my own way. Please help me trust in Your work, that You will indeed carry it out into completion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
