Recall when sadness stole your heart and whisked you off to a lonely, solitary state. Seeing people you care for brought a slow upturn to your mouth, but not your soul,
Processing those deep, soul-shaking surprises and fires of this life often more than singe our souls. If we aren’t careful those experiences can harden even the tenderest of hearts.
In Matthew 28:18, we see Jesus encouraging His disciples. He reminded them: 1. who is in control. (He is!) 2. He gave them a job to do. (Go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them.) And then He gave them a promise. A promise that surely lightened their steps and then warmed their hearts. “And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
They didn’t have to go it alone.
“The promise of his presence is complete. “Always” means ‘the whole day, every day’.
That promise applies to God’s children today, we who claim belief in Him!
He is with us to the end of today.
And tomorrow.
All day.
Every day.
I am never alone.
You are never alone.
Jesus is always here.
Even when we are sad, overwhelmed, exhausted, depressed. When we feel like we can’t possibly put one foot in front of the other. When we want to sink to our knees and pour out our frustrations and injustices to God.
Jesus is there. He will not leave us. He promises to stay with us.
We never need to feel alone.
Too many times I have fallen for the lie that no one understands. And never will.
Jesus knows what it is like to be human, with human emotions. With human pain. He knows what it feels like to truly be alone, when God turned away from Jesus on the cross.
Jesus will not let us endure such pain. He promises to be with us always.
I need that reminder from time to time. And sometimes, I need to ask Him to help me request His help. How about you? Do you, too, need a prayer for those moments?
Will you join me in asking for just that?
Prayer: Dear Lord, when the deep hurts penetrate, and my soul bleeds, my heart stills and my mind wonders, “Can I possibly do this anymore?” Remind me of Matthew 28:20, the promises that You are here with me. Remind me, I am never alone. I am never left on my own. Thank You dear Lord. Let me recall I can always come to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
