Do you ever feel grumpy when you’re stuck doing something you wish you didn’t have to do? I can relate to that! Unfortunately, when I feel like that, I begin “grumping” or complaining to myself. I wish I didn’t have to do this. I wish I didn’t have to deal with that.
It was in the midst of one such mental discussion with myself, I had to search in my notes for a piece of information and “stumbled” onto another note: Philippians 2:14.
Do you know what it says?
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing.” (NIV)
Well-timed, God.
I was immediately convicted.
The next verse was reassuring, “So that you may become blameless and pure ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’ Then you will shine among them life the stars.”
God knows what climate we live in. We are surrounded by complaints and lots of grumbling. If we can’t hear it, we see it. But that’s not who He has called His children to be.
He wants us to become blameless and pure. Knowing the circumstances we see and hear is not who we should be. He is calling us to shine as examples of hope, beacons of light as we live to glorify Him.
Do you have something, or somewhere that triggers grumbling or complaining? Maybe you, like me, need to recall this verse in such a circumstance.
I recently put this verse on my cleaning bucket to remind myself not to grumble when I get to clean my house, again.
Tucking His word in our hearts, and before our eyes is a good reminder that we can call on Him anytime, anywhere. Will you join me in prayer for remembering just that?
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You that You love me. You remind me I don’t need to behave as I might see done around me. You have called me to something else, and you have provided a way for me to do that alternate option. Please help me focus on glorifying You and not the tasks of frustration. Thank you for reminding me that I am to shine for you. Change my heart and my attitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
