Do you like change? What a question! Who does? According to a recent study, only 38% of American adults embrace change.
I am not usually one of them. Every summer our family schedule changes dramatically. Most of my immediate family is employed in education or students themselves. Summer can be fun with a lot of family time. But conversely, for someone who loves to be productive, I must rise early to actually accomplish anything! And to accomplish my goals? I need to rise before the sun.
Every May I try to prepare myself. I attempt to set realistic goals. I scrutinize everyone else’s schedule, looking for my personal points of down time, when I’m not needed by anyone else. I know I must keep my quiet time for Bible study and prayer. I remind myself I’m human, I don’t need to be perfect. And I remind myself that people must come first.
In Deuteronomy 31, Moses was handing Joshua a mighty large task: finally take these Israelites into the promised land. Moses knew it would not be easy.
He knew their schedules would change.
He knew there was a potential for their relationship with God to change.
As Moses looked into a younger man’s eyes, and he saw the fear, the flawed and the unfathomable. Moses offered these words of wisdom, “The Lord himself goes before you and will never leave you, nor forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged.”
As seasons change in my life, I must remember that God goes with me. As I enter new territory, I don’t have to be afraid or discouraged when things don’t go as I would author. Because it’s not up to me. I just need to be obedient and trust in God.
I know, easy to say or write, but not always easy to implement.
Maybe you are with me in this quest. You too, know that we need to trust God is with us, but sometimes struggle to remember that in the midst of change?
He promises He is there, and He will help us. We only need to ask.
Let’s ask Him together for just that.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You for Your promise to never leave me nor forsake me. Please help me remember to rely on those promises when surprises greet me and unsettle my heart. Please guide me and grow me as I slowly learn to put my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
