To The Beat Of A Different Drum

Posted on April 20, 2014 by stefanielynn3@gmail.com

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sins.” 1 John 1:7

It’s Easter Sunday!  A glorious day of celebration indeed!  Many of us attend church with great anticipation of uplifting music, an inspiring sermon, and a chance to see a flash of familiar faces.

Do we attend church for the tradition of it?  Or are we there in concentrated worship?

1 John 1:7 tells us, “if we walk in the light, we have fellowship.”  What does that mean?

Looking back at the verse in its entirety, we read, “As He is in the light.”  That ‘He’ is Jesus.  That light is in communion with God, His Father. Jesus is in communion with God.  And each one of us is also offered that very same communion, or personal relationship with God.

But first, we need to step into the light.

That means we need to take God seriously. We need to actually do what He says.  We must make a valid attempt to follow His laws. And to do that we need to know His commands.  Know you can always go to Him with any ‘small detail’ of life, not just turning toward Him in life and death situations.

He doesn’t demand perfection.  Know what His word says so His Holy Spirit can convict your heart when you wander astray.

And when you’ve wandered, turn completely around and run back into His open arms.

The amazing consequences of pursuing God: as you pursue Him, He will draw closer to you.  That’s a promise in James 4:8.

So as we walk, pursuing God through our actions of being in the light, we bask in the glow of a personal, loving relationship with God.

Jesus desires each of us to be with Him in the light.  He wants each of us to enjoy the fellowship of himself and of God.

What a magnificent gift!  Today is a day of glorious celebration indeed!

Reflections:

Monday: The Day After Easter: What meaning does Easter hold in your heart?

Tuesday: Read John 3:16.  Reread it again, replacing ‘the world’ with your name.  Does your heart comprehend how much God loves you?

Wednesday: Read James 4:8. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

How can you draw near to God?

Thursday: Identify how God has been inviting you to get to know Him. Have you responded favorably?

Friday: Prayer: Dear Jesus, How humble am I that You love me so very much to sacrifice Your life on this Earth to restore me into the presence of our father, God. Please remind me of Your promise in James that as I draw nearer to You, You will draw nearer to me. Amen.

Thank you for reading! Please return by Monday, April 28, for the next post.
