Do you believe in God but not sure you’ll get to heaven?
It’s daunting to consider that accepting Christ and living (imperfectly but believing in Him) is truly our get-out-of-hell-free card.
It’s easy for me to look at my life and wonder why God might want to save me. Yet He does. And He feels that way about you, too!
Thankfully God gave us some key Scriptures to reassure us. Think of them as God’s verification codes to help our hearts unlock the access encouraging belief in Him and His promise.
Ephesians 1:13-14 states, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,” (ESV)
When we make the choice to believe Jesus, confess our sin, and accept His forgiveness, we not only have our debt erased, we are also sealed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guards our hearts, reminds us of needed Scriptures and nudges us in the way we should go in thought, word and deed. He doesn’t take away our personal choices, but He tries to help us navigate life.
We are told in Ephesians 4:30, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (NIV)
The Holy Spirit sealed us for the day we arrive in heaven. We grieve Him when we willfully choose to go against God’s instructions. This verse is a great reminder to carefully consider my words and actions each night and when they did not align with God’s instructions to ask forgiveness and make restitution quickly.
2 Corinthians 1: 21-22: promises, “Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come.” (NIV) This is our assurance that we are His. We bear His seal.
Recall in ancient times, when a king had a seal, often imprinted on a ring he wore, that was dipped in wax to seal a scroll, or later a letter? Jesus’ seal is on our lives, leaving his special imprint and demonstrating we are His.
It’s humbling, no?
Yet, He loves us that much!
He claims us.
We don’t need to question our salvation.
But we do need to live with our eyes wide open, and when we realize our missteps, we must own them. Accept his forgiveness. And bask in his grace, again.
Are you, like me, overwhelmed? To think the Father of the universe would go so far to make sure I get to do life with him today, and spend eternity in heaven with him later?
But He absolutely did.
Let’s thank Him together for just that.
Prayer: Dear God, Your love is overwhelming. I didn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it. But You give it anyway. Please help me appreciate this great gift. Please help me delve deeper into my relationship with You and not worry about my salvation- because you sealed my fate, by Your grace I’ll get to stay with You forever. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
