How do you feel on vacation?
Recently, hubby and I found ourselves in our nation’s capital for the week leading up to Independence Day. We decided to download an app to use the public transportation system. We were determined to navigate as a local. But we are not used to city life!
We made all kinds of mistakes. A seasoned traveler knows there are two bus stops for each stop, one going each direction. We did not figure that out until after our first bus ride on day one!
I contemplated my own faith back when I embraced God on my own. While it was thrilling to be somewhere spiritually new, it can be a lot of changes to consider and implement all at once.
God does want obedience. In every choice of our lives. But He doesn’t expect us to get everything right all the time.
When we feel overwhelmed with decisions, He will guide us to the goal.
He does not expect perfection, just humility and honesty. When we make a mistake, He wants us to recognize it, admit it and ask for forgiveness. He promises us in 1 John 1:9,”If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
When we come to God, He does not expect perfection. When we have walked with Him for decades, He still knows we are human and make mistakes. He certainly wants us to try our best, and to learn to consult Him. He wants us to yield our hearts and spend time with Him, so our hearts don’t get distracted.
But He is also full of grace when we do make a poor choice or let the words come out unfiltered. He knows how humanity feels.
He is just waiting to be invited into conversations with Him as we share our hearts, asking for His forgiveness.
At the end of our week, I had a delightful conversation with a local while riding the bus. As we conversed, she grabbed a map, looking for her stop. She explained she was going somewhere new to her that day. In conversation, we realized we were disembarking at the same place. Hubby and I were able to assist her and her young daughter with navigating a stop.
I wonder how long you have walked with the Lord? I have for a few decades now, and I am learning everyday! If you are like me, it feels good to assist others, but it’s also important to hold onto humility, knowing I can always learn from someone else as well.
God will help us,when we ask Him for those reminders.
Will you join me in prayer for asking for just that?
Prayer: Dear Lord, please remind me no matter how long I walk with You, You want me to be honest with You when I make mistakes, You expect humility from me. Please help me focus on You and practice honesty and humility. In Jesus’ name. amen.
